If you had told us years ago that we’d be running a cleaning business together, we probably would have laughed!
Shepard’s Cleaning began in a way we never could have planned.
Angie had experience cleaning homes while also working part-time in social work and therapy. When a dear friend needed back surgery, she asked Angie if she could help clean some of her customers’ homes while she recovered. Of course, Angie said yes.
When our friend returned to work, she generously allowed us to keep a few of those homes. We decided to continue cleaning, thinking it would simply provide some extra income to help us reach our retirement goals.
Meanwhile, Justin was working as an insurance agent after spending years cutting meat. Every now and then, he’d tag along to help Angie. And truthfully? Cleaning wasn’t exactly Justin’s thing! He was pretty content sticking to the floors while Angie handled the details. But with Angie’s patience and guidance, he gradually learned what it really means to care for a home and notice the little things.
As word spread and our schedule filled, something unexpected happened. We realized we might actually be able to turn this little side job into a full-time business.
A Leap of Faith—Together
Was it scary? Absolutely. Working alongside your spouse all day and then going home together isn’t always easy. There were great days, frustrating days, and plenty of opportunities to practice patience!
But something beautiful happened along the way: our marriage grew stronger.
We learned to listen better, respect each other’s differences, recognize our strengths, and lean on one another in ways we hadn’t before. What started as a way to earn extra money became an unexpected blessing for our marriage and family.
The People Make It Special
Over the years, we’ve met so many wonderful people throughout the Quad Cities. We’ve shared conversations, laughter, stories, and even made friends with some pretty amazing pets! ❤️
Many of our customers have become more than customers. They’ve become like family. Being welcomed into someone’s home is a privilege, and it’s something we never want to take for granted.
More Than Cleaning—It’s About Relationships
One thing that makes Shepard’s Cleaning different is that we believe cleaning homes is about more than cleaning. It’s about building relationships.
That’s why we send one cleaner to your home at a time, rather than a team of people coming and going. We want you to know the person caring for your home, and just as importantly, we want your cleaner to know you.
We want them to learn your space, understand your preferences, notice the details that matter to you, and take pride in caring for your home. That familiarity helps build trust, consistency, and genuine connection.
We never want you to feel like just another house on a schedule. Your home is where life happens, and we believe the person caring for it should understand that.
Growing, Learning, and Moving Forward
Over the past four years, Shepard’s Cleaning has grown far beyond those first few homes. As the business has expanded, we’ve gradually stepped back from cleaning every day to focus on managing the company, supporting our cleaners, and caring for our customers.
And we’ve learned that running a business is about a whole lot more than cleaning! There are challenges, unexpected situations, difficult decisions, and lessons we never imagined we’d have to learn.
Are we perfect? Not even close. Do things always go as planned? We wish! But we believe in taking responsibility, learning from mistakes, making things right when we can, and striving to be better each day.
Our goal has never been to become the biggest cleaning company in the Quad Cities. It’s to build a company people can trust—one that genuinely cares about the homes and families we serve.
From Our Family to Yours
Looking back, it’s amazing to see how something so unexpected has become such an important part of our lives. What began as a simple favor for a friend turned into an opportunity to work together, strengthen our marriage, build relationships, and serve our community.
We truly believe God has blessed this journey in ways we never could have imagined.
To our family, friends, customers, and the entire Quad Cities community: thank you. Thank you for believing in us, supporting our business, welcoming us into your homes, and giving us the opportunity to do what we do.
We’re grateful for where we’ve been and excited for the years ahead.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. God bless you all! ❤️
